Practical skills in penile prosthesis implantation

The course combines hands-on work on silicone models with a semi-live operative session, focusing on the infrapubic and penoscrotal techniques of penile prosthesis implantation.

It is intended for urologists and residents who wish to advance their practical skills and gain experience in surgical techniques as well as the topographic anatomy related to potential complications. Through hands-on work on models, participants are trained for safe and effective penile prosthesis implantation.

What participants achieve

Upon completion of the training, participants will be able to:

• Identify the different types of penile prostheses (inflatable and malleable/semi-rigid).
• Perform the preparation of the corporal bodies and the placement of the reservoir and pump using the infrapubic and penoscrotal techniques on a silicone model, with proper surgical methods.
• Consider preventive measures and management strategies for potential intraoperative complications (perforation, malposition, etc.) and, through hands-on work, reach a basic level of surgical competence.

Course programme

The one-day programme (12:50 – 16:30) includes introductory remarks, hands-on implantation on a silicone model, and a semi-live operative session.
